Year Started: 1965

Betty (Burton) Weikel began four-wheeling in 1965 as a member of the Santa Barbara 4WD Club. She got involved early on, serving in various positions in the club, going on runs all over California, volunteering to help with trail cleanups, manning vehicle shows, towing floats in the Santa Barbara Fiesta parade, and pulling the drag at the Oceano Sand Drags. She was a member of the California Four Wheel Drive Association starting in 1965 until she passed away in 2021, serving on the board of directors, helping with the association's annual meetings, acting as a liaison to the Los Padres National Forest and attending almost every district and annual meeting during her time in California.

Betty was the 'cool' grandma, taking her grandchildren out on the trail in her 1981 Jeep CJ-7, teaching them to appreciate the outdoors and the value of volunteering and trail etiquette. Her CJ-7 has been handed down to the next generation and will continue to inspire Betty's great-grandchildren to enjoy the sport.
