In one of the more than 40 boxes of materials donated to the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame, we found two small clear plastic tubs filled with 35mm photo negatives. In true Judy Smith style, all were carefully labeled and organized. These negatives are the foundation of the Judy Smith Collection at the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame.

Yes, more file cabinets! These are the Dusty Times archives, which were stored in a cargo container outside of Reno, Nevada. Judy Smith worked with Dusty Times editor Jean Calvin for many years. Both are Hall of Fame inductees. Our first immediate goal was to get the materials out of the elements into climate controlled storage. Thanks to ORMHOF volunteer Tom Heyl, pictured here, for helping!

That's Shelby Hall, dwarfed by giant boxes of Dusty Times magazines inside of the original storage container. The magazines were transferred into smaller storage boxes and moved to climate controlled storage. ORMHOF is digitizing the entire Dusty Times collection as funds become available. The preview issue and year one (1984) are available for viewing.

More from the treasure trove of off road history in the Dusty Times archives. Rod Hall and Jim Fricker in the #410 Dodge truck. Rod was the driving force behind the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame. Rod is a Hall of Fame inductee and received ORMHOF's Louis Unser Never Give Up Award. He served as chairman for many years and remained on the board until his death in 2019.

A peek inside one of more than twenty file drawers of material donated to the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame by Judy Smith. FAIR stands for First Association of Independent Racers, an early racing organization. Note the 'Loser' files. Judy felt that the stories that the losers told were more interesting than interviewing the winners.

Judy's race records were well organized. A folder was created for each event, which included the press kit, program, and other information...and of course her trademark spiral notebook filled with race results, interviews and stories.
