SCORE International and the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame share a common goal to recognize exceptional achievements in off-road. SCORE International presents Milestone Awards to racers who complete every mile of the four-race series named in honor of legendary racer and Hall of Fame inductee, Rod Hall.

“SCORE is privileged to honor the world’s best desert racing drivers and riders,” said Jim Ryan, SCORE Vice-President of Sales and Marketing. “For nearly four decades, SCORE has been very humbled to honor racers with the Rod Hall SCORE Milestone Awards, presented by Toyota Escondido. SCORE racers are the toughest, most rugged racers on the planet. This most prestigious award has become iconic in our sport. It is also a distinct privilege for us to continue to honor the memory of one of the greatest desert racers of all time by having Rod Hall’s name on this unique and wonderful award.”

SCORE International History

SCORE Baja desert racing officially began on July 26, 1974, with the SCORE Baja Internacional which later became the SCORE Baja 500.  SCORE was founded in August 1973 by the legendary late Mickey Thompson with the SCORE World Championship short-course event at the old Riverside International Raceway.

SCORE was then owned and run for over 38 years by the iconic Sal Fish, considered by many as the godfather of desert racing around the world. Fish sold SCORE on Dec. 12, 2012, to Roger and Elise Norman.

The Normans continue today developing SCORE marketing and Sponsor programs with Abelardo Grijalva as SCORE President/Race Director, Juan Tintos Funcke as the SCORE General Manager, and Jim Ryan as the Vice-President of Marketing and Sales.

SCORE’s first desert race was the SCORE Parker 400 in early 1974. It included one lap on the California side of the Colorado River, a transit, and two laps around the Arizona side of the Colorado.

Over the many years, SCORE has produced many races no longer on the annual schedule, both in the U.S. and Mexico. The foundation of SCORE Baja racing has been the SCORE Triple Crown of Baja events—the SCORE San Felipe 250, the SCORE Baja 500, and the SCORE Baja 1000.

In its U.S. history, among the numerous memorable events SCORE has produced have been the SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge, the SCORE Las Vegas Terrible’s Primm 300, the SCORE Nissan Mint 400, the SCORE Fireworks 250, the SCORE Great Mojave 250, the SCORE Las Vegas Terrible’s Cup and the SCORE Henderson Terrible 250.

For seven years, from 1985 through 1991, SCORE combined with the late Walt Lott’s High Desert Racing Association of Las Vegas to run the combined HDRA/SCORE Desert Series.

Thompson (2007), Fish (2006), and Lott (2007) are all inductees in the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame.

SCORE International presents Milestone Awards to racers who complete every mile of the four-race series. The award is named in honor of legendary racer and Hall of Fame inductee, Rod Hall.

Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame History

The Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame was established in 1978 by racing promoter and NORRA founder Ed Pearlman to recognize and honor those individuals and organizations whose lifelong contributions to off-road motorsports have set a standard for others to follow. In 1995, legendary off-road racer Rod Hall became ORMHOF chairman, a position he held for more than twenty years, before selecting current chairman Mark McMillin as his successor.

The mission of the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame is to educate and inspire present and future generations of the off-road community by celebrating the achievements of those who came before.  Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame inductees represent excellence and achievement in many areas of off-road, including advocacy, journalism, industry, rock sports, desert racing, short course, and rally.

ORMHOF maintains a collection of vintage off-road vehicles that are displayed at museums around the country, as well as an extensive online archive of print, images, and videos, with more content added as funds become available.  The Hall of Fame Off-Road Registry invites clubs, organizations, events, businesses, and individuals with fifty years or more of history in off-road to apply for Hall of Fame heritage status in the official archives of the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame.

The Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame is funded through donations, individual memberships, and industry partners. A 501c non-profit organization, ORMHOF has earned a GuideStar Non-Profit Gold Seal of Transparency for 2023.

ORMHOF is guided by an all-volunteer board of leaders in the off-road community, including chairman Mark McMillin and board members Frank ‘Butch’ Arciero Jr, Dave Cole, Frank DeAngelo, Bud Feldkamp, Jeff Furrier, Bob Ham, Josh Hall, Gary Haugley, Rich Klein, Rafael Navarro III, Fardad Niknam, Bonnie Vessels, and Rory Ward.
