Bob Sweeney’s lifelong dedication to the Rubicon Trail and the off-road community is rooted in his family’s deep connection to the Sierra Nevadas. In 1887, his great-great-grandfather signed the declaration establishing the Rubicon Trail as a county road. His grandparents were early committee members of Jeepers Jamboree, and his father, an El Dorado County Supervisor, fought to keep the trail accessible to the public.
Bob was introduced to off-roading in his teens and quickly became involved with Jeepers Jamboree Inc. as a volunteer crew member, starting as a Rock Roller before joining the helicopter crew. When the opportunity to buy a share in Jeepers Jamboree Inc. became available, he became a Director and was eventually voted President in 2013. In that role, Bob has been instrumental in advocating for public access and preserving the Rubicon Trail, working closely with local government and land-use partners.
Driven by a desire to inspire future off-roaders, both Bob and the Jamboree Office Manager worked side by side in creating Jamboree Camp Rubicon 14 years ago, a program focused on educating youth about outdoor recreation, environmental stewardship, and trail ethics. Six years ago, recognizing the need for a responsible UTV experience on the Rubicon Trail, Bob and the Jamboree Board of Directors launched UTV Con’Quest. This organized event continues to grow in popularity.
Raised on a cattle ranch, Bob spent his early years working the land and operating heavy equipment, skills that have proven invaluable in off-road motorsports. He has helped build the short course at King of the Hammers for several years and, as a past member of the Active 20-30 Club, helped construct the rock crawl course for the Rockin’ For the Kids fundraiser. In its 8th year at the El Dorado County Fair, Bob created and promotes the Experience the Rubicon Challenge, designing and building the course himself with the support and dedication of community volunteers.
Bob’s passion for motorsports includes sprint car racing, supporting the local dirt track, and guiding his son through karts and sprint cars, and into the KOH 4400 class. His off-road collection has included a CJ5, a TJ, a Rubicon, a Polaris Expedition, and a 4400-class car.
“Off-roading is more than a hobby, it’s a lifestyle built on shared experiences, challenging trails, and preserving public lands for future generations. I am committed to education, access, and adventure to inspire the off-road community.” – Bob Sweeney
